[When we begin the Begin] Beginnings (are) like beginnings, tricky by nature, promise promises whose future is undetermined, point towards impending time.

The wheel turns round and round, who knows where it will settle?

Today's action: Tibetan Bowl music, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv.

I choose to begin with acknowledgements.

הפרוייקט הוא עבודה המורכבת משתי הצבות בגלריות בשתי הערים - גלריה ברבור בירושלים וגלריה אלפרד בתל-אביב; סידרה של פעולות המקדימה אותם; פעולה של שהות/מחייה בחלל התצוגה ושידור אל גלריה TWS בטוקיו. את הפעולות והתערוכות מלווה בלוג אינטרנטי המכיל תיעוד של היתפתחות העבודה (קטלוג אקטיבי).

הפרוייקט הוא עבודה אורבנית (העיר כחלל) מכוונת זמן.
החללים מוגדרים על ידי הטלת רישום של אוזן על הערים - ירושלים ותל אביב (ראה מפות).
הזמן הוא עשרה ימי תשובה (ראש השנה עד יום הכיפורים), שבעקבותיהם זמן שהות בגלריה ברבור (חג הסוכות) שבעקבותיו זמן התצוגה בגלריות.

כל פעולה הינה פרשנות אישית מאוד של אחד משלבי ה"סולם":כתר:חכמה:בינה:חסד:גבורה:תפארת:נצח:הוד:יסוד:מלכות.

1<נגינה בקערה טיבטית. 2<משחק קלס המצוייר בתבנית ה"סולם” .3<הכנת פפופקורן בכירה ניידת. 4<ג'גלינג עם ביצים מצוירות/כתובות. 5<הקרנה של אור שמש בעזרת מראה קמורה+טקסט: העתקה של האימג' אל המקום. 6<הקלטות סאונד ברחבי ה"אוזניים" .7<העברה/השמעה של צלילי רחוב מעובדים, בעזרת מתקן סאונד נייד, מעיר לעיר. 8<עמידה בעיניים כסויות/ריקוד. 9<טיהור מים בעזרת מתקן טיהור נייד. 10<השמה של סימני אוזן בנקודות ההשקה בין הרישום לעיר (ת"א וי-ם) הפעולות מתועדות בעזרת שלוש מצלמות מזוויות שונות.

התערוכה בגלריה מתחלקת לשני חלקים עוקבים:

חלל הגלריה מצולם ומועבר בשידור ישיר דרך האינטרנט למוניטור, המשתלב כחלק מהתערוכה בגלריה ברבור.

חלק א'- סולם בונה סוכה 13/10- 22/10
שהות בסוכה בחצר גלריה ברבור; עריכת ווידאו+סאונד, הקמת חלל, שידור למוניטור המוצב בחלל גלריה אלפרד. שידור הפעולה אל TWS בשיבויה, טוקיו, והקמת סוכה על ידי שני חברי קבוצת ברבור השוהים במקום.

Jerusalem – Barbur Gallery www.barbur.org

The project is a piece composed of two installations in the two cities – in the Barbur Gallery in Jerusalem and in the Alfred Gallery in Tel Aviv; a series of preliminary actions that precede the installations; a stay/dwelling in the exhibition space for a given duration, and a transmission to Gallery TWS in Shiboya, Tokyo. The actions and exhibitions are accompanied by an internet blog, an active catalogue documenting the work's development and process.

The project is an urban piece (the city as a[n exhibition] space/zone) with a chronological vector. (or: a time-driven urban piece).

The zones are defined by imposing the outline of The Ear on the cities (see maps).

The duration is the Ten Days of Repentance (from Rosh Hashana [The Jewish New Year] to Yom Kippur [The Day of Atonement]), linked to a week-long dwelling in the Barbur Gallery during the Succot Holiday, linked to exhibitions in the three galleries in three cities, from September 29 through November 16.

A series of actions [taking place from Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year to the Day of Atonement during "the Ten Days of Repentance"] throughout the Ear Zones in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv:

Each action involves a very personal interpretation of the succeeding stages of The Ladder (Ha-Sulam) as delineated in Jewish mystical texts generally refered to as the Kabbalah: Crown: Wisdom: Understanding: Grace: Might: Beauty: Victory: Splendor: Foundation: Kingship.

1.> Tibetan bowl music. 2.> Sidewalk chalk game (commonly referred to in Israel as Klass) drawn according to The Ladder. 3.> Popcorn preparation on a portable stovetop. 4.> Juggling with decorated eggs (drawings and writing). 5.> Reflecting sunlight with a curved mirror and text: copying image onto the site. 6. > Sound recordings throughout the Ear Zones. 7.> Transmission/playing of processed street sounds from one city o the other, using a portable sound unit. 8.> Standing stationary with blinders on/ dancing. 9.> Water purification using a portable water purification filtering device. 10.> Ear Marking: Installation of Ear icons at relevant points in the cities and thus marking the ear outlines onto the cities (Tel Aviv and Jerusalem).

The actions are documented using three video cameras from three different angles.

The exhibition is divided into two successive stages:

Part A: 11/10 – 21/10: Rough Cut.

Part B: 22/10 – 1/11: The Ladder West.

The gallery space is filmed and transmitted directly via internet to a monitor that is part of the exhibition at the Barbur Gallery.

Barbur Gallery, Jerusalem

Part A: 13/10 – 22/10 The Ladder builds a Succah (short-term thatched dwelling, center of the jewish holiday following the New Year and the Day of Atonement). Building the Succah in the Barbur Gallery's yard; a week's stay in the Succah; editing video and sound work and transmission to the Alfred Gallery and to TWS Gallery in Tokyo.

Part B: 24/10 – 16/11 The Ladder East.

The installation is composed of edited and screened materials documenting the actions in Jerusalem. The exhibition is filmed and transmitted via internet to the Alfred Gallery in Tel Aviv and to TWS Gallery in Tokyo.
